Omnivity Data Sources and Licences

Last updated: 31 October 2026

Omnivity's food database combines open data published by public bodies and communities, values calculated by Omnivity, AI estimates and contributions from users. We thank the organisations below. Their inclusion does not mean they endorse Omnivity. We use a source only in the way its licence or terms allow.

Food data

USDA FoodData Central. Includes data from U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, FoodData Central (Foundation Foods, SR Legacy, the Food and Nutrient Database for Dietary Studies and Global Branded Foods), fdc.nal.usda.gov. Public domain (CC0 1.0). Our calculations also use the following, all from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service and in the public domain: USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference, Release 28 (2016); USDA Food and Nutrient Database for Dietary Studies 2021-2023 (2024); USDA Table of Cooking Yields for Meat and Poultry, Release 2 (2014).

Open Food Facts. Contains information from Open Food Facts (https://openfoodfacts.org), which is made available here under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. Individual contents of the database are available under the Database Contents License (DbCL) 1.0. Omnivity adds information to some Open Food Facts records (for example Turkish names, serving information and quality flags) and calculates some generic foods from Open Food Facts label data. As the ODbL requires, these changes and the method used to make them are available free of charge at https://getomnivity.com/odbl under the ODbL.

United Kingdom — CoFID. Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0: Public Health England (2021), Composition of Foods Integrated Dataset (CoFID), https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/composition-of-foods-integrated-dataset-cofid. © Crown copyright. Some values (carbohydrate and energy) were recalculated by Omnivity.

Canada — Canadian Nutrient File. Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – Canada: Canadian Nutrient File, Health Canada, 2015. Values may be shown for different serving sizes and units. This is not an official version of the Canadian Nutrient File and is not endorsed by Health Canada.

Australia and New Zealand — AFCD. Australian Food Composition Database – Release 3. Attribution: Food Standards Australia New Zealand. Used under the AFCD Data User Licence Agreement (https://www.foodstandards.gov.au/science-data/monitoringnutrients/afcd/datauserlicenceagreement) and Creative Commons Attribution 4.0. Omnivity converted the values to the units used in the app; the converted values are available at https://getomnivity.com/afcd under the same terms. The work is based on Australian data, and Australian data may not be appropriate for use in other countries. Limitation of data: there are limitations associated with food composition databases. Food composition data may represent an average of the nutrient content of a particular sample of foods and ingredients, determined at a particular time. The nutrient composition of foods and ingredients can vary substantially between batches and brands because of a number of factors, including changes in season, processing practices and ingredient source, and methods of calculation.

Restaurant and chain menus. Nutrition information for Costa Coffee and itsu (United Kingdom) and Tavuk Dünyası (Türkiye) is based on information published by those companies on their own websites and may change without notice. Each item shows its source and the date it was last checked. We add other restaurant chains only from sources whose terms allow it. Brand names and trademarks belong to their owners and are used only to identify the products; their owners do not endorse Omnivity.

Turkish home-style dishes. Some Turkish dishes are calculated by Omnivity from the ingredients of recipes published by Mutfak Sırları (mutfaksirlari.com), Refika'nın Mutfağı (refikaninmutfagi.com) and Arda'nın Mutfağı (ardaninmutfagi.com), using USDA data and the household measures below. The app names the site and links to each recipe used. These sites do not endorse Omnivity.

Household measures. Household measures and portion weights are based on Türkiye Beslenme Rehberi (TÜBER) 2015 and NIST Special Publication 811.

Values calculated by Omnivity. Some generic foods and dishes are calculated by Omnivity, for example from the ingredients of several published recipes, from the labels of similar products, or from the sources above. The app shows how each value was calculated.

AI estimates and translations. Foods estimated by AI from a photo or a description are marked as estimates and are visible only to the user who created them. Some food and brand names are translated with AI.

User contributions. Products added by users from package labels are marked as user contributions.

Reference data used in calculations

Body mass index-for-age (ages 13–17). CDC 2000 growth charts (BMI-for-age percentiles), developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and available at no charge at cdc.gov/growthcharts. Source: CDC. We use the values unchanged. Our use does not imply endorsement by CDC, HHS or the United States Government.

Exercises

The exercise library and its instructions are created by Omnivity. Equipment and event names used to identify exercises (for example Hammer Strength, TRX, Concept2, SkiErg, Technogym, StairMaster, Assault and HYROX) are trademarks of their owners; their owners do not endorse Omnivity. Exercise illustrations come from RepDB (see below); any other image or video from another source is listed on this page with its licence. HYROX is a trademark of HYROX World GmbH; Omnivity is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by HYROX. Our "Hyrox day" sessions are Omnivity's own training sessions built around the publicly published race format (the distances, station order, repetitions and Open-division weights in the HYROX rulebook); no rulebook text is reproduced.

Exercise illustrations: Exercise data by RepDB (repdb.co), used under the RepDB Free Tier License v1.0.
